What should hip hop success be based on?

pokeymaen asked:

Is it the money you make?
Is it the commercial success you have?
Is it the street cred you achieve?
Like the battle between Eminem and Cage.
The mainstream would say Eminem won easy because everyone’s heard of him, but true hip hop heads are split. I actually think Cage won because he still does great art and Eminem seems to do what sells. So I feel Eminem gave up quality for Money, I’m not saying that’s bad but that’s why I’m asking the question.

What Does Success Mean To You?

Filed Under (Self Improvement) by swapquot on 19-11-2009

Bob Urichuck asked:

oes success mean to you? This can be a difficult question because we often look to others as examples.

We see the Smiths down the street with a beautiful home, a swimming pool and a new car. By the looks of things, we might consider the Smiths successful, since most people tend to base success on material possessions.

But are they, or is it just a front to try to impress the neighbours?

For all we know, they could hate what they are doing, they could be heavily in debt and not very happy. So why do we judge people by their external appearances and material possessions and compare ourselves with their apparent success?

Is that what success is all about to you?

Success means different things to different people. The reality is, success means whatever you want it to mean for you. Don’t compare yourself with others and what they think success means. Believe it or not, you are already successful in many different ways. You just haven’t taken the time to realize it yet.

I am sure you’ve succeeded in accomplishing many of the things you desire in life, such as learning to ride a bike, learning to read and write, graduating, buying a car or a home, finding the right person and getting married, having children, and so on. These are all desires or goals that you have accomplished.

You have succeeded so far in your life, haven’t you?

Let’s take a look at two couples. Peter and Mary dress really well, drive BMWs, live in a beautiful home and always appear to have money to spend. Would you classify them as a success?

Based on the information provided, you probably would. But if we go behind the scenes, we discover that they are not happy in their jobs, they are in debt over their heads and their only goal is for one of their fathers to die so that they can inherit his money.

How many people do you know that live a life of “fake success”?

They are living their life from the outside in. Is this what success is all about?

Another couple, John and Sandra, appear a little different to society. John stays home and takes care of three children, while Sandra, a petite blond, leaves each morning with a metal lunch box and a hard hat and works in construction.

Would you classify them as a success?

Based on the information provided, you probably would not. But going behind the scenes, we discover that they are happy and each is living the life of their dreams.

When John was a child, his parents never seemed to be around. They were always busy at work or elsewhere. When John was a teenager, he set a goal for himself to be a parent and his dream was to stay home and raise children. Today, John stays home and parents full-time.

As for Sandra, she used to work in the corporate world but always had a passion to get involved in high-rise construction and leave landmarks around the world.

Is each partner doing what they want to be doing? Are they successful? Do you think they care what society thinks of them?

They are living their life from the inside out. Isn’t that what success is all about?

Look back again at the two different ways we have looked at success. In the first example, we looked at success from an external point of view and we compared ourselves to others.

In the second example, we considered success from an internal point of view which is a view of our desires in life and they don’t have to revolve around money, power or material things.

Your desire could be for a certain lifestyle, education, career, marriage or anything you want to have, to be or to do.

Success is the progressive accomplishment of a worthy goal or idea.

If there is something you want to have, to be or to do and you move forward toward accomplishing that desire, you will succeed. Success is not just about material things, it’s about you.

Success is not about how society sees you but how you see yourself. It is an inside out approach to success. You have to know yourself and your personal motivators if you want to travel the road of personal success and happiness.

How do you see yourself?

Is Success An Illusion?

Filed Under (Self Help) by swapquot on 13-11-2009

Stephen Campbell asked:

If I tell you, success is an illusion, would you believe me? Many of the people, who reply in the negative, are yet to come across this basic truth of life. The day you realize this, achieving success will become an easier task for you. All of us are born for different reasons. All of us have different goals in life. All of us have varied psychology and self image. But one thing remains common: all of us want to achieve success. But are all of able to do that?

The only reason why all of us are not successful is because the meaning of success for each of us is distinct. The first obstruction in the road of success is understanding the meaning of success. The meaning of success differs from person to person and time to time. As the kid, success might be doing well in your examinations. For a person in a relationship, success might mean to have a good relationship. For an artist, success may mean creating a nice painting. For an entrepreneur, success could be setting up a big business. One person’s success may be very trivial in the eyes of the other person.

We all want success? But why? Why is every human being in the quest for success? Why does he need achievements in his life? The best answer would be: Because success doesn’t come alone. It brings happiness and satisfaction with itself. But is it true in every case? Just imagine, if you have all the luxuries in life and a lot of money but no one to share your thoughts with, how would you feel? Would you consider yourself to be a success? Would you be happy? Would you be satisfied? Well, you might be successful and earn a lot of money but if you are not happy with your life, its all a waste.

Ask any of the successful people what is the meaning of success for them. They will always say: It means happiness! None of us would like to trade our happiness for success. What I want to emphasize is, success is hugely misconceived. We generally end up saying that we want to be successful, when in reality we crave for happiness. A person who earns less but leads a happy and a satisfied life is much more successful than the people who are very successful in their respective fields but don’t have the peace of mind. The meaning of success is truly achieved when your life is full of happiness and satisfaction. If you lack these two elements in your life, no matter what your achievements are, you remain incomplete.

Always bear in mind, success may or may not bring happiness, but happiness always brings success with it. Being successful is very different from being happy. Happy people radiate a positive energy; they are more confident and widely liked by the society. This makes them more susceptible to becoming successful. On the other hand, if you think that happiness will automatically follow success, you might be disappointed. Consider a working mother who has a small baby. For a mother, her happiness lies in being with her child. She considers herself successful only if she is able to develop her child into a good human being. On the other hand, for a working woman, success lies in becoming an avid achiever at their workplace. These two things cannot go hand in hand. A successful career needs a lot of devotion.

So does maintaining a happy and content family. So, it up to the woman to decide what she wants from her life. If she chooses to be a good mother, she cannot pay undivided attention to her work and vice versa. The only thing which can help her decide the right course is where her happiness lies? What would give her more satisfaction? Because no matter what she chooses, she’ll definitely be successful in one of her goals.

There are similar choices we need to make everyday in life. At that point of time, it isn’t success which matters, its happiness and contentment. So whenever you are stuck in such a situation, ask yourself. What is the meaning of success for you? And if the answer is ‘Happiness’, please don’t say you want to be successful. Say that you want to be happy!!

To your Happiness.

What Is Success

Filed Under (Self Improvement) by swapquot on 14-10-2009

Wadzanai Nenzou asked:

an beings we go through life asking what success is? Because it is not an easy word to define, this question can be asked all through someones life.

Success to some people might be gaining a degree from a university with prestige. To others, success may mean committing to another person with feelings so intense that they marry. Having a high paying job with many perks is to many people the meaning of success. So, what is success anyway? It is all of these things, and absolutely none of these things.

Your success all depends on what you decide for yourself about how you want your life to be. In this article I will go into the definition of success, how you can be a success and the different types of success out there.

The Definition of Success

The definition of success is often difficult to explain. For the purpose and intent of this guide, it is important to understand that success is not the same for one as it is for another.

Success occurs, however, in much the same way for everyone. If one sets a particular goal – no matter how small or how large – and they work to accomplish that goal and find themselves experiencing a period of completion, then they are considered to be successful. In other words, if you start out with a specific intention and you follow that intention through to the end to the point where you have accomplished the intention, it is then that you are truly successful.

How to Achieve Success

Many individuals spend quite a bit of time and quite a bit of money looking for ways on how to achieve success. I am happy to let you know that it is not really about using your money to buy hundreds of products on success or paying experts on success or anything of the sort. Success has nothing to do with the hook up of someone important; you must simply be the right type of person – that’s all! The following are some things that as a person you can undertake to make sure you have success in your life:

1. Take total responsibility of your life. This means 100% – no less is acceptable. It is sad how so many people go through their life not taking responsibility for their own lives all they do is finger point at others. This is inappropriate. For success to follow you there is no other way than to take full responsibility for your own life and what happens to you.

2. The second thing that you must do in order to be successful is to avoid excuses. Make a contract with yourself to never allow excuses to run your life. You should view excuses as nothing more than a rationalization of inactivity that serves no purpose other than convincing you that you are not directly responsible for the events and situations that transpire in your life. Excuses are morale killers. They only put you down and limit you.

3. The next element for you is to change your attitude on negativity in your life. I believe that no matter how bad an experience is there is always something good that can come out of it. Without mistakes we would never learn and grow. We could never appreciate the positive if we do not experience the negative. There is a learning experience in absolutely everything so it is important to focus your thoughts in this manner.

Types of Success

I could name many different types of success that individuals all throughout history have experienced. Many have proven successful in:

- Inventions

- Relationships

- Goal Setting

- Mechanics

- Writing

- Dealing with People

- Having Children

- Graduating from College

- And, more!

It is all about mastering or becoming the best at something. It is about setting a goal and seeing it through to the point of achievement. Success is about being who you are, and going for the things that you want in life. Success can come in so many ways. No one is able to tell you how to live your life except for yourself.

In Conclusion

When asking “what is success anyway?” you must take a look at who you are, you must take responsibility for who you are, and you must eliminate all excuses for why you cannot do one thing or another. You must know and understand that excuses are nothing more than a rationalization for inactivity and you must take the necessary steps to go past that lack of activity. You must set goals and see them through to the end. When you finish a goal that is when success comes.

Automated Succession Planning

Filed Under (Management) by swapquot on 09-10-2009

Success Galore asked:

Businesses change often and quickly and because of this they need to be prepared for almost anything. One example of a being prepared is going to be employee retention and succession. With all of the different jobs that are out there and all of the different companies that are doing similar, if not the same, work that you do, why would your employees want to stay with you? There are of course, many reasons for this including loyalty, money and security, but intertwined in each is the hope for advancement. People want to know that they are going to have the opportunity to move up in the company, that they aren’t going to be stuck doing the same thing year after year. There are exceptions of course, but most people will leave a place after a while if they aren’t given more responsibility, more power or at least more money. The question at this point is, how do you set that up, how do you decide who should be moved up? And of course, how do you train that person fast enough? Your answer is automated succession planning.

Succession planning is a pretty simple concept. The idea is that you will plan out which person will replace each person above them. That way, if you have a manager that quits, you already have a person selected to take that person’s position. The great things about having a succession plan is you won’t have to worry about training someone completely new to do a job at a completely different job than they used to work. This means less time training new managers or supervisors.

Speaking of training, the succession plan isn’t all that needs to be done. What will be done is the person that you selected to promote should begin receiving training now. They should work with the person they will eventually replace and should learn from them. This will allow for a smooth transition into the job for them. They will understand how the person before them did things and how they will do it. This allows for less complications and issues and it also give that person a reason to stay at the company. It really is a win, win.

The difference between succession planning and automated succession planning is the manner in which it is done. In automated succession planning you will fill in questions about different people. You will talk about their qualities, desires, seniority, and almost everything else that determines their abilities. This will nearly take the guess work out of things. This will assist you in determining which of your employees should be given what job. It will also track their progress so you know what they are learning, and what they are not learning. And if they aren’t learning it, then they should be trained again. This keeps an open line between the employee and the employer of what the plans for the employee are and what the employee’s progress is.

With this type of program you can save yourself a lot of time, especially if you have a large business already. In the end, succession planning is an amazing tool. After a while you will be impressed at how much harder they will be working because they suddenly have direction for their work, a reason to continue and hopes for advancement are becoming more realistic to them.
